Russian Drone Strike Triggers Deadly Blast at Ukraine Ammunition Facility

At least (37) people were killed after a Russian drone strike triggered explosions at an ammunition storage facility in the village of Myla in Ukraine’s Kyiv region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. The blast set off a massive fireball that lit up the night sky and damaged nearby residential areas. Flames spread to a care home for elderly and disabled residents, where most of the fatalities were reported. The explosion also damaged or destroyed around (50) residential buildings, forcing authorities to evacuate nearly (400) people. It came during the third consecutive night of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital and surrounding Kyiv region. President Zelenskyy said the initial Russian strike hit a Defence Forces ammunition storage site that should not have been located near homes. He said shells, mines, other ammunition and drones stored at the facility detonated after the attack. “Since yesterday evening and throughout the day today, I have been receiving reports on the situation in the village of Myla, Kyiv region, where detonation began following a Russian strike,” Zelenskyy wrote on X. He described the incident as a “terrible situation” and criticised those responsible for storing explosives close to civilians. “The negligence of those who stored explosives right next to people is appalling,” he said. Zelenskyy said authorities had opened criminal cases over suspected official negligence. He added that he had spoken with the Prosecutor General, the Interior Ministry, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief, who would investigate the incident. The Ukrainian president said the case followed a similar earlier incident in Vyshneve and called for officials to quickly disclose details of the investigation. Ukraine has faced sustained Russian drone, and missile strikes in recent months, while its air-defence systems remain under pressure. The latest incident highlights both the continuing Russian attacks and concerns over the safety of military facilities located near civilian populations.
