Iran Attacks US Bases in Jordan and UAE After US Strike Near Hormuz

Iran Confirms Attacks on US Bases in Jordan, UAE After US Strike Iran has confirmed that it launched missile and drone attacks targeting locations in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates following a US strike on an Iranian military site near the Strait of Hormuz. The attacks marked the first direct military exchange between the United States and Iran in several weeks, following a month-long lull in fighting. US Central Command said American forces carried out “limited and precise” strikes against facilities linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on an island in the Strait of Hormuz. The US said Iranian forces were preparing missile launches and planning to deploy sea mines in the strategic waterway. “The Iranian regime created the threat, and the US military eliminated it to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping and the free flow of global commerce,” US Central Command said. Iran confirmed that the US strikes caused casualties, including deaths and injuries among military personnel and civilians. Iranian officials condemned the operation and promised retaliation. Iran later launched missile and drone attacks against US military facilities in Jordan, according to Iranian state media. The Jordanian Armed Forces said it intercepted eight missiles heading towards its territory. Iran also reportedly targeted a US military installation in the United Arab Emirates. However, authorities did not immediately confirm the extent of the damage or whether any missiles reached the facilities. Independent verification of the claims was not immediately available. Iranian state media later reported that an oil tanker attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz struck a sea mine, caught fire and was disabled. The report could not be independently verified.

US Tightens Economic Pressure The latest exchange comes as Washington increases financial pressure on Tehran. The US Treasury Department is expected to announce additional secondary sanctions targeting banks accused of processing Iranian funds or helping Iran bypass existing restrictions. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Trump administration could impose sanctions on another bank after branches of Egypt’s Bank Misr in the UAE reportedly faced penalties over alleged financial links with Iran. “This is going to be financial violence if we have to,” Bessent said, warning financial institutions against helping Iran access the dollar-based global financial system. The US is also expected to urge G20 finance ministers and central bank governors to cut economic ties with Iran or face secondary sanctions. China remains a key concern for Washington as Iran’s largest trading partner and a major buyer of Iranian oil. The latest developments underline the volatile nature of the US-Iran confrontation, which has shifted between periods of relative calm, economic pressure and direct military action.
