E20 petrol, which blends 20% ethanol with 80% petrol, can reduce emissions and support India’s energy security. The blend can also create demand for crops such as sugarcane and maize, support farmers, strengthen Indian industries and reduce dependence on imported crude oil. The Department of Defence Production has notified the sixth Positive Indigenisation List, covering 405 strategically important defence items with an estimated business potential of ₹3,070 crore. The list includes 16 Indian Coast Guard items and 389 items for Defence Public Sector Undertakings. It covers components and systems for helicopters, Su-30MKI aircraft, light combat aircraft, armoured platforms such as the T-72 and T-90, warships, missiles, radars, sonars, satellite communications and anti-tank ammunition. The initiative aims to expand domestic defence manufacturing, support Indian industry and reduce dependence on imports under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme.

India’s Defence Ministry has signed a ₹1,943 crore agreement with US-based General Atomics Aeronautical Systems to lease two MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones for the Indian Navy. The 30-month lease will strengthen India’s maritime surveillance and intelligence capabilities across the Indian Ocean Region. Equipped with advanced sensors and sophisticated systems, the high-altitude, long-endurance remotely piloted aircraft will provide persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance coverage over vast maritime areas. The agreement aims to improve the Navy’s maritime domain awareness and enhance its ability to monitor and respond to emerging security challenges in the region

BRICS nations began official-level working group meetings on Information and Communication Technologies in Pune under India’s chairship. Department of Telecommunications Secretary Amit Agrawal said all 11 member countries are expected to attend the ministerial meeting and declaration on August 20 and 21. The discussions will focus on innovation, resilience, cooperation and sustainability in the digital sector. Delegates will also examine collective solutions and opportunities in emerging technologies. Officials presented reports on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, while a cybersecurity workshop will promote continuous information-sharing and the exchange of best practices among BRICS countries.
