BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum Opens in New Delhi The three-day BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum began in New Delhi under India’s 2026 chairship. Judicial leaders from member states and partner countries are discussing justice delivery, international disputes, artificial intelligence in courts and sustainable development. Chief Justice Surya Kant held bilateral meetings with counterparts from Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the UAE, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran and Uzbekistan. India’s chairship focuses on resilience through early-warning systems, supply chains, trade and community-based solutions. The forum will build momentum ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, scheduled for September 12 and 13.

Indian Powerlifters Excel in South Africa Indian powerlifters delivered strong performances at the 2026 IPF World Sub-Junior and Junior Championships in Sun City, South Africa. West Bengal’s Banerji won silver in the junior women’s 47-kilogram deadlift category with a 140-kilogram lift and recorded a 280-kilogram total. Seventeen-year-old Madhura Kar from Jalpaiguri dominated the sub-junior 52-kilogram category, winning gold in the squat, bench press, deadlift and overall total. However, online discussions focused disproportionately on appearance, raising concerns about colourism, pretty privilege and unequal recognition. Supporters urged fair attention to both athletes’ achievements, discipline and hard work.

Anahat Singh Reaches London Squash Quarterfinals India’s Anahat Singh defeated the eighth seed in a 39-minute match to reach the quarterfinals of the PSA Gold event in London. The world No. 20 and reigning Junior World Champion had earlier defeated Egypt’s Mariam Metwally in straight games. Singh will next face the winner of the match between Sivasangari Subramaniam and Nardine Garas. Her latest victory highlights her rapid progress on the senior squash circuit. In July, Singh became the first Indian player to win the junior world championship, strengthening her reputation as one of India’s most promising young squash stars.
